The 62nd Symposium of the « Centre européen d’études bourguignonnes » will take place on 16-19 September 2021 at the University of Basel (Switzerland). Its theme will be loyalty and treason in the Burgundian regions and beyond in the 14th to 16th centuries.
The theme can and will be taken in a broad and interdisciplinary way: chivalric loyalty, but also loyalty in love, treason in diplomacy or warfare but also in personal or intimate matters. Questions include, but are not limited to the value given to loyalty, the tensions between the plight of loyalty and the temptation of treason, regulations and law around loyalty, punishments and judgements for treason, and the justification.
See for more details the French version of this CFP.
